Chapter 2 Excerpt..............."Annie Tries On The Glove"
“There, how does that feel?” Mrs. Bryant asked. It was dry and stiff and Annie could feel the dust of ancient ball fields around her fingers. She held it up like she was receiving a throw and squeezed the glove. Even though it was still stiff it closed in a perfect pattern as if it had never forgotten what a ball felt like, or the last time it had made a catch. It seemed to come back to life through the warmth of her hand and with each squeeze as if it were stretching its muscles after waking up from a long, deep sleep.
Chapter 3 Excerpt.................."Billy Bancroft"
Billy Bancroft had grown up in Woodlawn, had played on the very field that they were playing on, and had played on the very first football and baseball teams at Woodlawn High. He had gone on to Howard College and played football, and had scored the first points ever made at Legion Field. He was a local kid who had made good, a real hero to all the kids in the neighborhood. Every kid on that field wanted to be the next Billy Bancroft.
